Meet Alex - Piano Teacher

Born in small-town Orange, Texas, Alex Borel relocated to Los Angeles, California after graduating cum laude from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Production & Engineering, where he studied with accomplished pianists such as Kevin Harris, Tim Ray, and Bob Winter of the famous Boston Pops Orchestra. Alex is a lifelong pianist, as well as an experienced songwriter and producer.

Alex has performed in a variety of settings, such as Texas’ TMEA 4A All Area Jazz Ensemble as a pianist, the TMEA All-State Orchestra as a percussionist, Berklee’s R&B jazz ensembles, and tours as a pianist and monitoring engineer with bands such as Loote and Hablot Brown, among hundreds of other performances in various wedding, worship, and local venues. As well, he has written, engineered, or produced hundreds of records for various artists and bands, in genres spanning from jazz fusion and R&B to pop and country.

With 10 years of classical piano lessons, 8 years of jazz piano lessons, 7 years of drum/percussion lessons, 2 years of guitar lessons, and 1 year of voice lessons, Alex has experienced a wide variety of music education, from fighting through childhood lessons with unwelcoming instructors in genres he didn’t enjoy, to finding true passion and inspiration with understanding and inviting mentors in styles that he loved. This experience has led him to approach music education by considering first and foremost the diversity and interests of each individual student, to push them toward their own goals and fulfillment on their instrument.

Apart from teaching, Alex spends his time working in recording studios, writing and producing pop, R&B, and hip-hop music. Outside of music, Alex enjoys making homemade cold brew coffee, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and making new friends.
