Meet Rachel - Flute and Piano Teacher

Rachel Reyes is an active performer and teacher residing in Seattle, WA. Recently, Reyes won first place at the Arizona Flute Society 2022 Graduate/Professional Competition and was selected as a winner at the 2022 Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition.

Rachel spent the summer serving as a flute fellow for the 2022 Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Tennessee where she performed with the Sewanee Symphony and as part of the Advanced Chamber Music Series. In 2021, she performed at the Brevard Music Institute in North Carolina as part of the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and New Music Quintet. Previously, Rachel was a featured soloist for the Doppler Andante et Rondo double flute concerto with Professor Donna Shin and the University of Washington Wind Ensemble at the 2020 PNW Band Festival. Previously, she was awarded a fellowship position and performed in the Faculty Artist Concert Series at the 2019 Sewanee Summer Music Festival and was a featured performer at the 2018 ARIA International Summer Music Academy in Massachusetts.

In addition to her national performances, Rachel was invited to perform and teach masterclasses as principal of the University of Washington Wind Ensemble on their performance tour of China in 2019. Rachel graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree and studied with Professor Donna Shin at the University of Washington (UW). At UW, she also performed as principal of the UW Symphony Orchestra, with the Baroque and Modern Ensembles, and in various chamber music ensembles.

Other performances include playing alongside the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Modern Orchestra; and under the direction of renowned conductors such as Ludovic Morlot, JoAnn Falletta, Gemma New, and Michael Jinbo. Rachel received a Master of Music at Arizona State University (ASU) studying with Dr. Elizabeth Buck At ASU, she performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Contemporary Modern Ensemble. She is returning to her alma mater University of Washington to continue studying with Donna Shin and serve as a teaching assistant. Additional studies include lessons with Karla Flygare, Zart Dombourian Eby, Brian Gordon, Viviana Cumplido-Wilson, and Iris Ingram. She has performed in masterclasses for Marianne Gedigian, Jonathan Keeble, Molly Barth, Brandon Patrick George, Jill Felber, Juno Lee, and Janet See.

Outside of performing, Reyes has a heart and passion for teaching and sharing her love of music with others. Currently, she teaches with the Andrew White School of Music where she guides students in flute, piano, and theory studies. Her students have participated in the All-State Honor Bands and have placed in the Arizona Flute Society Junior and Senior Competitions. Outside of music, she enjoys growing her indoor urban jungle.
