Meet Hanae - Voice and Piano Teacher
Hanae Straub graduated from Washington State University in 2016 with a Masters in Music Education. She loves working with students of all ages from kindergarten through college as well as adults and seniors. Regardless of musical skill level, Hanae tailors each lesson to the unique needs and desires of each of her students. Hanae specializes in teaching through the Kodaly Method, which is an approach that emphasizes the importance of teaching musical literacy through only quality repertoire and established systems of teaching like takadimi rhythm and Curwen hand signs in solfa. Zoltan Kodaly was a firm believer that teachers should be of the highest caliber and skill level. As such, Hanae’s mission as a teacher is to continually challenge herself and to be a lifelong learner in order to provide her students with the best experience possible.
As a performer, Hanae is a classically trained soprano and has performed in shows, recitals and in churches both regionally and internationally. She has performed a number of lead roles in operas and musical theatre. Some of her most notable roles include the title role in The Merry Widow, Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family and Adele from Die Fledermaus. Prior to her college experience, Hanae was an active competitor in regional competitions in Washington including NATS and Solo and Ensemble. She placed in every competition and won at the state level in Solo and Ensemble in the Classical Soprano division. Hanae has also adjudicated for solo and ensemble and enjoys helping students prepare for and compete in such programs. Currently Hanae is a conductor at Bellevue Youth Choirs and Aldersgate United Methodist Chancel Choir.
Hanae is mom to Isla (born 2017) and wife to Nathan. As a family, they love going on walks with their French Bulldog, Francis Poulenc and serving in their church.
